Grand Opening Digital Commons

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library

901 G Street Lobby Level, West Reading Room

For many months the glass enclosed West Reading Room of MLK Central Library has been papered over, while DC Public Library created a new "Digital Commons" devoted to digital learning, digital literacy, and digital collaboration.

Join Mayor Vincent Gray at the Grand Opening on July 17, 2013 at 10 AM MLK central is the first public library to offer the amount of space and number of services focused on technology, according to DCPL spokesperson Archie Williams, with access to 70 public computers, including iMacs, as well as media/graphic creation stations, a 3D printer, a Skype station and a meeting room for up to 50 people. The Library has also restored the opening day look of the now landmarked Mies Van der Rohe building, using original modernist styled tables and chairs, and bringing out the Mies designed Barcelona chairs now grouped together in the lobby just outside the Commons.

As DCPL says, "Check it out!"

Founded in 1922 in a townhouse at 1767 P Street, to promote and protect the interests of the residents, the Dupont Circle Citizens Association (DCCA) is the premier civic and residential organization in the Dupont Circle area.  DCCA brings neighbors, including residents, businesses and non-profit organizations, together to improve the quality of life in an active and diverse urban neighborhood. It holds membership meetings nine times each year, which are open to the public, organizes the Dupont Circle House Tour, resolves neighborhood issues through its committees, donates to local causes, and incubates innovative projects.
